On wooden staircase, there are two pieces of wood that dogs chewed up. There are wrought iron between the top wooden rail and the bottom wooden pieces of the stairs. Edges on stairs are darker wood and edges are rounded. Is that possibly something that you could repair/replace the two wooden stair pieces?
