I will never use Cecil and his sons services ever again. I should've learned from the first time 8 years ago how their work mediocre. I thought over time he had gotten better. Cecil came to my home to finish up my master bathroom remodel from a previous contractor that I fired. My shower looks like crap. Grout was put on my shower walls and floor as if a toddler did it. His sons were drinking alcohol in my garage. The shower tiles cracked due to their negligence of not grouting them correctly. Dust and trash was everywhere. Some days were missed of them coming to do the job. I was given excuse after excuse. I had to constantly point out things to finish up. They left my shower wall tiles and shower floor with such a heavy haze. A couple of main floor tiles weren't put down correctly. I asked Cecil to paint and add shelves to the old shower that was turned into a linen closet by the 1st contractor. That came out a mess. Now, I have to redo my shower floor due to water getting under the dang tiles from their mistakes. He won't return my calls nor text messages.

Best Questions to Ask a Remodeler Contractor

What guarantees and/or warranties can you give me? Are you a warranty agent for any brands?

These first two questions should only relate to services or good purchased directly from the service provider. Many products carry their own warranties, like roofing shingles or siding. It's useful to know what these warranties cover as well as how long they last. The "warranty agent" question is important, because often warranty agents work with the manufacturer to get you repairs under warranty at a much lower price.

How long have you been in Additions and Remodels business for/How long have been serving the Lithonia area?

You'll always want to ask how long the company has been in business in Lithonia. While this isn't a guarantee that the company will do good work, companies with longevity on their side must be doing something right. That being said, there are newer companies that do great work. If the company is under three years old, ask where the owner was employed before and for how long. If he/she has a long history of employment, it's reasonable to infer that he or she decided to go into business for themselves after so many years of experience.

Do you have any references that I can contact?

Always ask for references, and always check them. Keep in mind though that the only references you'll get are people who the contractor is certain will give him a good review. You'd also be well advised to check online review sources in Lithonia as well, which will give you a broader view of customer satisfaction for a given company.

Are you union or non-union?

This really only matters if you have a preference, but it is good to ask. If you have a strong ideological belief about unions or nonunions, it's perfectly acceptable to make a decision based on the preference.

Do you hire properly documented Additions and Remodels workers?

This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.
