While in the process of the sale of our home, the prospective buyers hired Al's Septic for their inspection. We noticed that our 100' hose was missing after the inspection. A woman returned our call explaining they only use special hoses for proper pressures etc. Our property is completely secure from these types of issues and the hose was there that morning. We can afford a new hose. This is just another company out there not doing the right thing. This could have been a simple mistake with a simple resolution. Instead, she would not listen and simply dismissed us and hung up.

Best Questions to Ask a Landscaping Contractors Contractor

How long have you been in Landscaping business for/How long have been serving the Morgan Hill area?

You'll always want to ask how long the company has been in business in Morgan Hill. While this isn't a guarantee that the company will do good work, companies with longevity on their side must be doing something right. That being said, there are newer companies that do great work. If the company is under three years old, ask where the owner was employed before and for how long. If he/she has a long history of employment, it's reasonable to infer that he or she decided to go into business for themselves after so many years of experience.

How many contractors do you have working for you? How many vehicles are in your fleet?

This is important mostly for larger jobs. Clearly a two man operation is going to build a home much slower than a 15 man crew. This is also a good indication of the overall size of the Landscaping company, if that's an area of concern for you. The reason you may want to ask about the fleet is that fleet size is a good indicator of the mobility of the company. Mobility may not sound important, but it's hard for the Morgan Hill contractors to get to job sites if they lack appropriate vehicles.

What is your projected timeline for the Landscaping project in Morgan Hill?

Though a standard question, it's important to ask. Most contractors will tell you how long they expect the job to take without you asking. If they don't volunteer that information, be sure to ask. It's also helpful to ask if that's a hard finish date, meaning that it's the definite finish date. If it's a soft finish date, it may be extended for any number of reasons.

Do you work with subcontractors?

The question is great for some industries and non-applicable for others. A general contractor, for example, will by definition employ subcontractors. Most Morgan Hill Landscaping companies do not, but there are exceptions. You should always ask this question to your service providers. If they do use subcontractors, ask if they're all licensed and insured independently.

Is your bill for Landscaping in Morgan Hill an estimate or a final price?

This is very important, since an estimate is just that. Many contractors will submit a "paper estimate", meaning they've written the estimate down on paper. The bill is the true amount owed and will almost always say "Invoice" or "Bill" at the top of the page. The bill should also list the date it was issued, the due date of payment, and a list of services rendered.
