Great work at a fair price! Carlos know how to get it done. We have had him do small jobs and complete home rework(cutting walls, digging out, beams and structural, etc.) Most recently he tore out our old bathroom, redid the flooring and walls, and installed tile, clawfoot tub, beautiful fixtures, such great work. For the kitchen, his guys did very intricate tile work, moving cabinets and countertops, to make room for a 6 burner Wolf stove(complete with new gas line). It was so skillfully done that the old counter and cabinets were moved and it was done in 2 days. (we did have to wait on the county gas line inspector though…) He made a huge job into and easy one. I recommend Carlos for all your home improvements, large or small.
This really only matters if you have a preference, but it is good to ask. If you have a strong ideological belief about unions or nonunions, it's perfectly acceptable to make a decision based on the preference.
Though a standard question, it's important to ask. Most contractors will tell you how long they expect the job to take without you asking. If they don't volunteer that information, be sure to ask. It's also helpful to ask if that's a hard finish date, meaning that it's the definite finish date. If it's a soft finish date, it may be extended for any number of reasons.
This will be answered when you ask if all employees are licensed. The only way to obtain a legitimate tradesman's license is to be a legal or naturalized citizen of the US. The company may employ people in positions that don't require a license, however, so it's wise to inquire.
The question is great for some industries and non-applicable for others. A general contractor, for example, will by definition employ subcontractors. Most Silver Spring Additions and Remodels companies do not, but there are exceptions. You should always ask this question to your service providers. If they do use subcontractors, ask if they're all licensed and insured independently.
