We have a mid- to late- 1800's farmhouse with two in-usable chimneys. The one in the room in which we would like a woodstove is truncated below the attic roofline (no longer runs through the roof). We are looking into the feasibility of applying an economic solution by either: 1) Punching through the existing chimney brickwork to run stove pipe outside or 2) Punching through the existing chimney brickwork and running pipe into a new, smaller, more efficient flue constructed of modern materials *)A solution that helps retain the look of the house is preferred, but we're looking for practicality, safety and affordability first.
