So you woke up this morning and thought to yourself: it’s time to get some home decor up in this house! You had the plan, you started looking up things online and… oh, boy. Turns out home decor can be quite salty. But eh, that’s OK – maybe you’ll look again when things are a little less tight, right?
Nah. We often trick ourselves into waiting but all we’re really doing is pure old procrastinating. Except “waiting" sounds more like we have a plan.
But we are not waiting today:
These are cheap DIY ways you can go about home decor without overspending or even having that much work for yourself. We’re talking simple, quick and easy projects you can actually do yourself, and that if you were to purchase from a store, it would cost you WAY more.
“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine."– Anthony J. D'Angelo
Window frost is a nice way to add a little something to your front or backdoor, but purchasing a door with it or replacing the glass for a textured one would be a modest investment. Not super expensive by any means, but still, the cost is not exactly the chance in your wallet.
But frosting spray is.
Frosting spray is easy to come by in department stores and does the job tremendously well of frosting your windows for a whole new look – with a dash of extra privacy on the side.
And to get that patterned look you see on the image, simply use tape to create the patterns and remove them once the frost has settled.
Window blinds with washi tape
In the case of glass windows that need an extra flair, you can use the incredibly versatile washi tape to create colored blinds. It’s easy, customizable because of the variety of colors you can choose from, and better yet, it’s non-permanent.
This opens up the possibility to change later, or simply decorate a rental place without the fear of damaging anything.
DIY pom pom basket
This might surprise you, but have you ever googled pom pom baskets? These can cost up to $30 or more!
Well, how about you make your own for less than $10? This is the idea behind this In My Own Style project that is very easy to do and allows you to customize exactly how you want it to!
Add custom mirrors
The absolute easiest way to add more space and style to a room is with mirror arrangements. The mirror helps reflect more light which makes the room brighter, and the reflection itself creates the illusion of more space.
And to top it off, you can decorate the mirror itself to make it look like a proper work of art.
In this example, it’s a simple setup of colored clothespin (which you can decorate with washi tape or even paint yourself with different colors)!
DIY leather drawer pulls
Indeed, what you’re seeing here is not a luxury item that would cost you more than remodeling the kitchen. In fact, this is a much more accessible DIY alternative made by Tara from Mom Can Do Anything.
It has a unique look you won’t find anywhere else – and even if you did, it would not be cheap. So try it out for yourself!
Build your own headboard
Need to revamp or upgrade your headboard? You could do something like hang Jô a drape rug as a headboard and that works just as well – it’s pretty easy to switch it up when you want to, and it works splendidly.
BUT what if you can create a headboard that’s both beautiful and practical at the same time? Enter this DIY wooden box headboard.
These can be easily acquired for very cheap and they double as little shelves you can use for decoration, as nightstands, and for storing your books! You can also paint them if you want to, but even the raw wood offers a nice rustic look that might suit you.
Old furniture doesn’t necessarily have to be replaced – people pay a lot of money for new furniture that looks like old furniture but just… new. Confusing, I know.
You can do something like this instead: repaint and prime your furniture to make it look new, while retaining the rustic quality of its design!
Inexpensive wall art
Wall art doesn’t have to be super expensive. Why not just a few very well lined up frames (which are super cheap) with a few prints that you really love (which you can print for very cheap as well)?
Symmetry and alignment go a long way into making something simple look interesting!
