I need someone to give me some ideas about how to stop water from coming into my basement. The previous owner installed French drains a few years ago. Then last year, when water again flooded the basement, a contractor said the French drains had not been installed properly and reinstalled them. Now today, I have water in the basement, so the French drains are not fixing my problem. In addition, quite by accident, I discovered a hole in the ground in the downstairs bathroom where someone in the past dug a hole in the concrete to install the "P" trap for a bathtub. So there is a section with no concrete slab, and the groundwater comes up that hole in the ground and floods my basement. I installed a sump pump as a temporary stop gap measure last spring until the french drains could be reinstalled. But now I need something more permanent. Any ideas for either how to fix it or who to call?
