Did you know the Scandinavian decor style was really popular in the early 2000s? Although it’s been around since the 1950s, it’s just like any other style: it comes and goes over time. But this year it’s all in again! Scandinavian is a style known by its simplicity and functionality, also easily identifiable by its minimalistic trait.

“He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Gray Walls

We all love a beautiful accent wall, whether that’s with gallery walls (that are also a huge trend this year) or with a different paint color. The Scandinavian design comes with the black and white color pallet and with that, the gray wall accent. Even though a gray accent wall catches the eye, it’s not too bold of a choice. That makes a gray accent wall perfect for a neutral, monochromatic appeal.

Decluttered Spaces (a.k.a. Minimalistic)

Now this one I found quite interesting when I was reading about the Scandinavian style. I never knew that the minimalist trend had a foot in it as well.

But it’s true:

Antique Scandinavian homes were small and needed to have a clean, decluttered space so they could actually be liveable in a comfortable way. Despite the fact homes are being built larger nowadays, the minimalist style carries on (because who doesn’t feel at peace with that decluttered look, right?).

Storage as Decor

How about this? The idea of using storage as decor became popular with the Scandinavian style. Perhaps that’s because the houses were small and they needed to use everything possible to create a beautiful home? Whatever it was, we love that idea!

Here are some storage options to try:

  • Clothes racks
  • Wicker storage baskets
  • Open shelving
  • Hidden storage ottoman
  • Wall rack

Folding-Style Wooden Chairs

Not only the wooden chairs, but also the leather details are part of the Scandinavian decor. Both make a gorgeous combo and we want it to be around for a long time! The best thing about these is that they go with almost anything since both leather and wood are easy to color and match. Though the rustic vibe really has my heart!

Copper Items

Have you noticed copper is huge this year? Ever since the year started, I find at least one piece in pretty much all decoration tips and trends. But we have to admit: it has a reason why this is happening and that reason is:

Copper is gorgeous!

It adds so much class and there are even options you can DIY at home. Isn’t that just the best? Copper is known as the metal of the season and we love it.

Graphic Calendars

This is the way to go Scandinavian and also get organized! Whether you have trouble staying on track with your tasks, or if you’re just a bit of a neat freak, the graphic calendar will be a really cool addition to your home office decor.

Paper Lanterns

Huge paper lanterns were also a surprise to find on the Scandinavian comebacks list, but they’re here! While they don’t blend well with all decor styles, if you have a more modern, rustic, or even bohemian home, these lanterns can create a beautiful ambiance. They’re made to replace traditional chandeliers and add a whimsical effect that’s just so easy to fall in love with.

Blue Accents

Do you remember one of our first articles this year mentioning blue as one of the biggest colors of the year? Well, we didn’t mention it back then, but the idea of having pops of blue in your decor comes from the Scandinavian style!

And here’s why:

Since Scandinavia’s palette sticks with the black and white appeal, blue is the favorite color to make an accent without having too much attention. Just like the gray walls, pops of blue blend in perfectly with most decor styles.

Here are some ideas to add blue in your decor:

  • Curtains
  • Tablecloth
  • Pillows
  • Rugs
  • Linens

Feathers

Or better saying: faux-feathers. They’re perfect for bringing the feeling of nature inside your home, and can even add elegance to the room you’re placing them in. I feel like it would be a great choice for the office or a living room shelf.
