A discussion people keep on having year after year is about what’s the right time to put up the Christmas decor! Some say november is too soon to have trees around, however, there’s also people who simply love looking at the holidays decor the longest time possible since it brings such joy to their hearts. That discussion is likely to keep happening for a while, but at least now people who enjoy decorating early have the support of psychology. Check out why!

“Holidays are about experiences and people, and tuning into what you feel like doing at that moment. Enjoy not having to look at a watch.” - Evelyn Glennie

It’s no news to anyone that Christmas is a time of joy and celebration! From the bright colors that are involved in the decoration, to the warmth of a cozy family gathering, and a belly full of delicious food. The kids running around and opening gifts, the adults talking, remembering their own childhood traditions, and also putting their hearts to creating their own traditions!

Christmas has this worldwide good energy that spreads like oxygen itself and it’s amazing, it’s some sort of magic that’s hard to explain. In addition to that, it also helps making sense the reason why decorating for the holidays early can make you happier.

So, there’s this article on the Daily Mail that talks about what we’ve mentioned above: the nostalgia of childhood. It’s very common to make Christmas be about kids, with Santa, the elves, the gifts… and because of that, our brains tend to make the association christmas - childhood - happiness.

These were the words of Steve McKeown:

“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.”

He’s a psychoanalyst who founded Mind Fixers and also owns The McKeown Clinic, these words came from an interview he gave about the subject. He mentions that since the world we live in now is filled with stress and anxiety, Christmas is a time that reminds us of childhood making all the fuzz go away for a little while.
