Christmas is only a few days away and maybe you didn’t have time to get it all sorted out. Not to worry, with all the insane holiday rush and wrapping up projects for the holidays, it’s hard to plan ahead.
Which is why we’ve decided to get some last-minute ideas out in order to help those who, like many of us, didn’t have time to think about what to do for dinner!
These ideas cover most bases for quick desserts, side dishes and a main course to bring it all together. We’re looking for recipes that’s fairly easy to do, doesn’t require tons of ingredients or a huge time commitment, but still works for a complete Christmas dinner experience.
Let us know your thoughts and don’t forget to share your last minute ideas as well!

1. Potluck Sausage Casserole
You can get this delicious sausage casserole ready to go in less than an hour! It’s a fully realized main course, rich in flavours and textures that everyone will love – and just by looking at it you can guess why. There’s a reason people say we start eating with the eyes.
The recipe itself combines penne pasta, italian sausage, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and a variety of flavours to make the dish irresistible. If you like the way this sounds, get the full recipe here!
2. Pigs in blankets
Pigs in blankets are popular side dishes and for a very good reason – it’s needs not more than two ingredients, it’s easy to set up, and you’d have to walk around the Earth to find someone who doesn’t like it.
You’ll need thin slices of bacon (which you can cut yourself but for the sake of time can be purchased already cut), a bundle of chipolata sausages, and a few dessert sticks just to hold the wraps together. Once they’re set up, roast for 15 minutes and serve!
3. Hot cocoa fudge
It wouldn’t be Christmas dinner without a delicious dessert! This hot cocoa fudge is not ingredient heavy, but offers a nice and light aftertaste for you and your guests.
The main ingredients are the kind of chocolate (could be dark chocolate, but it’s up to you) and the marshmallow bits to cover the fudge and give it some much needed personality. It can then be cut into bite sized portions for everyone to dive in, no holds barred!
4. Cranberry-brie bites
We’re talking last-minute plans so we have to keep it real – creating appetizers along with a main course and dessert might seem like a bit too much, but these ones are special. Why?
You will only need three ingredients and thirty minutes.
The ingredients themselves are: prepared pie crusts, cranberry sauce (prepared or homemade), and brie cheese. To top it off, you can sprinkle some chopped chives over them, but it’s not necessarily to get the main dish across.
5. Turkey crown
Of course we need a main course for the night and turkey is a tradition, but as we all know, getting a whole turkey ready is not always easy. You could always purchase a seasoned one, then all you have to do is bake it and boom, dinner done!
And that’s definitely not a throwaway idea, if you’re short on time, go for it!
But assuming you want to do it yourself, here’s an alternative: get this turkey crown ready instead.
It’s short on ingredients, easy to prepare on the day, and it even bakes faster. The ingredients are as follows:
- A 2kg turkey crown
- 2 garlic cloves
- Bug bunch thyme
- 1 juiced lemon + a few more to serve
- 50g of softened butter
Yep, that’s it! To put it all together, follow these simple steps and enjoy the night!
