In my view of the world, there are only two types of people in the world. People who wear matching socks, and people who purposely don’t. I actively fall into the latter of the two groups. Today on my feet I have one rainbow sock and one puppy sock under my fairly professional heeled boots. I love going about my normal adult life with a fun little addition to my wardrobe. But I know that I fall into the minority as far as this goes. The people closest to me tend to fall in the “Type A” category and love to have matching sets of everything, including socks! So every once in awhile I hear angry muttering under my roommates breath as she puts away laundry when she can’t find the mate to one of her socks and I thought to myself, where do all those missing socks go?

I wish I had an answer for you folks, but turns out that’s one of life’s amazing mysteries but it turns out there is a way to honor those fallen socks. May 9th is National Lost Sock Memorial Day. To celebrate, or rather honor, that amazing smiley face sock or knee high shamrock sock you lost many years ago, we’re tackling a project to help you keep track of all those wayward socks. Follow along to give your laundry room some much needed organization and your lost socks a second chance.

Materials:

I got these frames at the dollar store a while ago and wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with them but as a spur of the moment DIYer, I wanted to keep them around and this ended up being the perfect project for them.

  • Frame (8x11 is a good size but bigger is better)
  • Paint (if you decide to paint the frame)
  • Custom Printed Saying
  • Clothespins
  • Hot Glue Gun

How To:

I decided to paint them with acrylic paint. I had this paint around from another project and these are the colors we’ve been using to decorate our apartment. I used Mod Podge matte spray after the paint dried to keep it from peeling or scratching since the frames are plastic.

You can also choose to paint the tops of the clothespins, or decorate them with washi tape if you have it in either the same color or a contrasting color to add a little more fun.

After it was all dry, I chose the image to go inside the frame. I printed a couple of different options to see which I liked best. I went with a simple design, purely consisting of text because that fits the design feel of the house but if you have watercolor paint, it would be beautiful to do a design over the text as well. If you are looking for something a little more detailed you can print these amazing designs from The Resplendent to go inside the frame.

From here all you need to do is grab your handy dandy glue gun and your clothespins and glue as many as you would like on the bottom of the frame. I also added a couple of flowers to the frames as well.
