With July nearing its end, it’s time for us to look upon the near future. More specifically, the home maintenance, repairs, and projects you should undertake during the coming month of August.

The start of new seasons tends to require more attention, but we won’t be turning a new season until October. That gives us plenty of time to iron out some kinks, perform basic repairs, and perhaps a few important inspections that slipped under the radar.

With that, I present to you a simple but reliable August checklist!

Deep clean the kitchen

It’s always a good time to get some things done in the kitchen. In August, you can take this gap between the seasons to clean and declutter, since the kitchen is usually a busy room.

For cleaning the kitchen, focus on:

  • Dust over cabinets
  • Emptying and cleaning cabinets
  • Clean the microwave and stove inside and outside
  • Sweep your kitchen floor

When you empty the cabinets, you can already take that time to declutter. Check out this handy kitchen declutter guide!

Clean your floors

Whether you have hardwood or tile flooring, it may be long overdue for a deep clean. The process is quite different depending on what type of floor you have, but the benefits are more than worth the trouble.

You can also check for other minor repairs while you’re on it. Hardwood flooring may require some scratch repairs and resealing, while tile flooring may require grout cleaning.

Declutter the closet

This is one of those tasks we put off for ages, so hey, since August is relatively chill in terms of home maintenance tasks, why not do it now?

The idea is to go through your closet and get rid of all that you can. Try to separate your stuff in categories like keep and donate, always taking in consideration when was the last time you used it. Of course, you don’t have to get rid of stuff you like, but we want to free some room in your closet so a few things will have to go.

In fact, you can perform a quick home declutter in 2 hours if you’re interested!

EXTERIOR

Pressure wash

Pressure washing is one of the best ways to see instant results. This process is perfect to quickly clean vinyl siding, roofing, driveways, and wooden decks. I always recommend you check out before and after pics – trust me, you’ll be sold on the idea immediately.

It’s fast, reliable, and you can even perform it yourself if you own or rent the required equipment. But as always, you can hire a pressure cleaning pro in your area to save yourself the trouble.

Reseal your deck

A wooden deck needs somewhat regular resealing to survive wear and tear. It’s not required that often, but if it’s been a while since your last reseal, this is a good time to perform it. After all, we’re still enjoying pleasant weather and the deck is a wonderful place to relax outdoors.

The benefits of resealing are vast: it prevents cracks and rotting, often caused by moisture absorption. And of course, staining can revitalize the look of the wood and give it a brand new appeal. Add this to your home maintenance checklist!

Prevent mosquito infestation

Most people love to enjoy the outdoors, but not when mosquitoes have invaded your yard. These resilient little bugs take advantage of warm weather to enter your property and reproduce in any stagnant water they can find.

Luckily we’ve recently gone through a guide on how to get rid of mosquitoes in your yard for that very reason. Take the necessary precautions and protect your home from these annoying bugs so that you can enjoy the rest of Summer in peace, whether you’re relaxing in the yard or resting indoors.

A simple way to kickstart the month of August is a deep house clean. Get free quotes from professional house cleaners in your area to save yourself the trouble!
