Cleaning doesn’t need to be a hard task we keep postponing until the last minute. It can be a piece of cake when you know the right way to do it! And when I say “the right way” I mean “the easiest way” of course! These twelve hacks are sure to make your life easier and make cleaning a lot better!
“The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment.” - Marie Kondo
Mustard for Stinky Jars
A teaspoon of mustard plus hot water is the trick to remove the bad scent of glass or plastic jars and containers - especially those Mason jars you still want to keep using!
Use Flour for Liquid Splits
Yeah, that’s right! You don’t need to take out the mop every time you spill something on the floor, simply sprinkle some flour on the spill, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then sweep it with a broom.
Lemon for Dishwasher
When it comes to dishwashers, lemons are a great way to:
- Dissolve soap scum
- Remove hard water deposit
- Polish
- Disinfect
Your dishwasher will thank you for the job well done with it! And they also make the smell of the garbage disposal go away, so yay for that.
In addition to that:
Lemons combined with salt are good for cleaning wood cutting boards too, as we are saw it here.
Here’s one more thing about lemons:
Knives with rusty surfaces can be “fixed” if you let them soak in a combination of equal parts of water and lemon juice. It takes about ten minutes for the solution to make its thing, then rinse and dry the knives.
To recap: lemon is the most magical cleaning hack ever!
Car Wax Your Stove
It may sound weird, but it works - and that’s the important part, right? Polish the stove with car wax and it’ll become a lot easier to clean off splits, spills, and stains.
Cooking Spray for Freezer
Avoid ice from building up in your freezer shelves by spraying them with cooking spray! Let the spray do its thing for about 5 minutes and then wipe it off with a paper towel.
Swiffer Socks
This can also be known as the best lazy hack ever! I mean, you’ll dust off your house floor by just walking around a bit. You can put them on in the morning when you wake up and then you’ll be able to dust your bedroom as you get dressed, dust the bathroom while you’re brushing your teeth, and even dust the kitchen while making breakfast. It’s amazing!
Tape for Crumbs
Tape is not only awesome for picking up crumbs from your countertop instead of throwing them to the floor - where you’ll end up having even more work to do with sweeping and mopping.
Hear this out:
It’s also a great way to remove lint that sticks to your black clothing (or really any dark color clothing)!
Hair Dryer and Olive Oil for Wooden Surfaces
You can remove water rings from wooden surfaces by using a hair dryer and then renew the surface by rubbing a paper towel with a bit of olive oil on it. Simple as that, all of your wooden furniture will look brand new!
Toothbrush for Keyboards
I guess we should mention beforehand, this isn’t about the musical instrument, this trick works on computer keyboards only. You can get one of those old toothbrushes that need to be replaced, wash them up, let them dry, and then use to clean your keyboard! They’re great to reach all the places you can’t with a simple dusting brush.
Baking Soda and Vinegar for Showerhead
If you simply want to remove stains from your showerhead, the vinegar by itself will do the trick. However, if you need to unclog the shower head along with cleaning it, then you’ll need to mix:
- ⅓ cup of baking soda
- 1 cup vinegar
Mix the ingredients inside a plastic bag that’s big enough to fit over the whole showerhead. Make sure to secure the bag with a rubber band - maybe some tape can help you out too. Leave it there overnight, and in the morning rinse the solution off, then let the water run for a couple of minutes before taking a shower.
Toothpaste for Cleaning Silver Jewelry
First of all:
If the piece of jewelry you want to clean has any gold on it at all, you must not use toothpaste at any cost!
Now, to the point in question:
Use a toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste and brush the ring or necklace you want clean! This trick is like magic - absolutely amazing!
Shoe Polish for Leather Furniture
Leather furniture can easily get scratched - especially when you have pets at home. The way to fix this is by using shoe polish (the appropriate color, of course) and rubbing off the excesses! Your furniture will look like it just got home from the store.
