Fall is finally here and in case you haven’t had time to prepare your home for the season, I have a few priority tips!
It’s important to make these preparations now because Winter is soon to follow, and some of these projects and repairs are much easier to perform now that the weather is more agreeable. And while Fall is generally easy going, Winter is much harsher and your home needs to be ready by then. But hey, that’s a few months away still – we have a lot of time to work things out!
Besides, it’s also better to do some now and some closer to Winter, which gives you time to work on the budget and negates the need to do everything at once.

Inspections, inspections, inspections!
There are a few crucial inspections you should do, so it’s a good idea to start with them. You’re not committing to any projects just yet, you’re just getting an idea of which repairs need to be made, if any. Once the inspections are done, you can prepare a budget and then start working on one project at a time.
These are the most important inspections your home needs this season:
- Roofing inspection. The condition of your roof needs to be in top shape for the winter, so it’s a good idea to prepare for repairs sooner rather than later.
- Gutter inspection. You need your gutters to be working during Fall since a lot of debris from nearby trees and wind can lead to clogging.
- HVAC system. This is a good one to perform regularly anyway, but it’s even more important the further you go into Fall.
- Chimney inspection. The chimney can already be used during Fall but it has to be clean, otherwise the fumes can contaminate your home, making it terribly unsafe.
Insulation upgrade
The impact of good insulation can be felt during colder seasons and if you need an upgrade, now is the perfect time to get it. You will be able to enjoy it just fine for the next few months, but during the winter in particular it can help you save a lot on energy bills.
And because the process can be a bit longer if you need a big upgrade or just installation from zero, it’s better to start during Fall!
Check your wardrobe for warmer clothes
It’s time to check your wardrobe and pull out the cold weather clothing for a refresh. They may have been stored for a while, so they need to be cleaned and maybe have some time in the sun.
Try to cycle out some of the warm-weather clothes for now to make space for the sweaters!
Fertilize your lawn
Fall is the best time to fertilize your lawn. You can start with watering before raking and applying the fertilizer to ensure maximum absorption, but remember that you can also call in a pro to help you out.

Prepare for the holidays
October is already right here and this marks the official start of the Halloween season! This is many people’s favorite holiday from aesthetic to the season itself, and if that’s your case, you have a few weeks to prepare.
Consider what decoration you’ll be using and look out for materials, as well as ingredients for your recipes and a solid idea of how to celebrate when October 31st comes around! You can always watch a Halloween movie with the family while eating some candy – simple but it always works.
Take your first step by looking for a roofing inspection, which is one of the most important inspections for your home!
